Your Resume AND/OR your Linkedin Profile gets your foot in the door; gets you that interview. get’s someone to email you; get’s someone to contact you on Linkedin; it’s gets interest in you in general and is your KEY selling tool. Too often we neglact this area and miss opportunity after opportunity. You maybe be the best in the world at what you do but if you can’t communicate that to anyone then no-one’s interested.

Traditionally resume’s have been built around the concept of ‘how it looks’ rather than the content, BOTH are important but I would argue the content is what really sells you, this is where you influence the perceptions about you. The template of your resume is not too important; there are loads of good resume templates out there and the majority do exactly the same thing. How many pages it should be is determined by how much experience you have; what type of job you are going for; your profession; and what is the best way to ‘sell’ you. The standard perception is it should be 2 pages; nope! it will be whatever sells YOU the best; could be 1 page could be 5!

When I build resumes with clients we talk about it agree together about the content and presentation. YOU are writing the resume but I am guiding you. It can take a long time to get a simple resume done and once you’ve ‘finished’ you will be continuing to polish and nuture it depending on how you are changing and the types of jobs you are going for or interested in. The content of your resume can also of course be used in your Linkedin profile easily.

So, how do you feel about your resume? When you think about it should provoke feelings of confidence; pride and positive energy.
